2Project work
During my tenure as a buyer for a Chinese women's fashion brand, the company was facing issues such as an aging product structure and sluggish sales growth. Our core customer group—urban women aged 30 to 45—generally sought a style that was "refined but understated" for both daily workwear and social occasions. However, in previous seasons, the product offerings suffered from severe homogeneity, an excessive number of SKUs led to inventory backlog, and customer repurchase rates were declining.
I took the lead on the Autumn/Winter collection by conducting market research, redefining customer personas, and analyzing competitors. I worked closely with the design, merchandising, and visual merchandising teams to drive the concept through to execution. In the first month after launch, the Autumn/Winter collection saw a 22% year-on-year sales increase, with 78% sell-through on key items.

4Reflective Learning
Journal 1: Self-Awareness in Leadership
In the leadership course, I gained clearer insights into my leadership style—collaborative—through personality assessments and peer feedback. This style helps build trust and motivates team members but may lead to indecision in conflict and decision-making scenarios. Learning about transformational leadership theory made me realize that a leader is not only a coordinator but also a visionary and change driver. I began expressing my stance more assertively and setting clearer goals in group discussions. This shift in mindset allowed me to have a greater impact on team projects and laid the foundation for future managerial responsibilities.
Journal 4: Motivation Mechanisms in Organizational Behavior
By studying Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory and Vroom’s Expectancy Theory, I gained a deeper understanding of employee motivation mechanisms. In a group assignment, we simulated designing an employee incentive plan with a limited budget, balancing monetary and non-monetary rewards. I realized that effective motivation isn't just about salary increases—it’s about making employees feel valued and finding meaning in their work. For example, “recognition systems” and “growth opportunities” can spark long-term intrinsic motivation. This made me reflect on why I sometimes lacked sustained engagement at work—often due to the absence of clear goals and feedback mechanisms.
Journal 2: Practical Experience with Project Management Tools
In the project management module, we applied tools like Gantt charts, WBS, and milestone planning to break down and organize a real-life case project. It was my first time systematically understanding how to deconstruct a complex goal into manageable tasks. In group collaboration, transparent progress tracking and role assignment significantly boosted our efficiency. I later applied this structured approach to my part-time job, using spreadsheets and checklists to plan weekly tasks, which made my work more organized. Project management is not just a skill but a way of thinking—it taught me to "plan before acting."
Journal 5: Developing Strategic Thinking
In the strategic management course, I was introduced to frameworks like SWOT analysis and Porter’s Five Forces. Through case studies, I learned how to analyze how companies survive and grow in competitive environments. When analyzing a failed retail strategy case, I realized the close relationship between environmental scanning, resource allocation, and strategic positioning. I understood that tactical execution alone is not enough—leaders must possess systemic and forward-thinking capabilities. Whether climbing the management ladder or starting a business, strategic awareness is a capability I must continuously develop.

Journal 3: Improving Financial Statement Literacy
I used to find financial statements unfamiliar, but in the accounting and financial management course, I gradually understood the meaning behind the data through step-by-step breakdowns of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. The most rewarding part was learning “financial ratio analysis,” which taught me how to assess operational efficiency and financial health through numbers. Now, when reading annual reports, I can evaluate a company’s profitability and risk exposure. This skill is valuable for understanding business decisions and assessing investment opportunities, laying a foundation for future entrepreneurship or financial management.
